Getting Traffic to Your Blog Using Content

By TJ Philpott

Driving traffic to your blog is always a major priority and in most cases your success depends upon your writing ability! Now I'm not referring so much to composing interesting blog posts but rather your ability to write content 'off site' that will entice people to visit your blogging platform! Although offering visitors interesting blog updates is critical to the success of your site, you must take active measures to promote your platform! Also considering people are more interested in what you say and how you say it, it stands to reason that the length of your content is not always an issue! With that being said here are 3 strategies perfectly suited to showcase your writing ability away from your blogging site that will encourage viewers to pay a visit!

Useful Comments

Leaving comments at other blogging platforms is a great way to increase your exposure while also learning how to write content that makes an impact. As a blogger like we discussed above, people will make their own determination as to what they feel is an interesting blog post! More times then not their opinion will be based more upon what you say and how you say it and not the length of the update itself! Learning to say a lot with fewer words is actually a skill that comes with practice and leaving meaningful comments at other platforms is great practice! Of course the higher the quality of your commenting the more people will be inclined to visit you site!

Forum Interaction

Actually forums are structured similarly to blogs insofar as accepting and encouraging interaction by visitors! The primary difference I guess would be that forums are viewed more as 'help' centers but the participants are still focused nonetheless! Visiting a forum that focuses on the same or similar topic you write content about gives you access to a targeted audience. Your participation can be of great impact to others by making attention getting remarks that are insightful, informative or helpful! Much like blog commenting the remarks you leave should be relatively brief and here too this helps you improve your writing ability! Making an impact in as few words as possible takes practice so have at it!

Articles

Since blogs attract folks due to the content they offer it only stands to reason that articles would be an excellent 'preview' to what readers can expect on your platform! Readers can get a feel for your writing ability and then simply follow the link if what you wrote did indeed stir an interest! Not only that but your articles are often a great source from which you can create interesting blog posts as well!

There are many strategies for getting traffic to your blog and the 3 suggestions above are based upon using your writing ability 'off' site! By doing so you can showcase the same writing ability you will be using to compose interesting blog posts you can offer visitors once they land on your platform! The popularity of your blogging platform ultimately rests on your ability to write content in a way that will keep readers coming back! Doesn't it make sense to put this same 'talent' to use for traffic generation purposes off site as well?

5 Google Affiliate Secrets To Help You Earn Thousands Of Dollars Monthly

By Christopher Kyalo

There is no doubt that Google affiliates rank as some of the most successful affiliates anywhere on the web.

Yet few understand the reason behind this success. Even the majority of Google affiliates who are yet to start making huge five figure checks do not quite understand why the Google Adsense program has flourished so much within such a short time.

Anybody who understands the real secrets behind the phenomenal rise of Google affiliates will be in a much better position to benefit and profit from it, whether or not they are current Adsense affiliates.

1. Google Affiliates Are Riding On The Most Dramatic Shift In The Advertising Industry In History

A few webmasters think that this Adsense and pay per click affiliate mania is a passing fad. All indications are that this is not the case. If anything mounting evidence points to one of the most dramatic and rapid shifts in advertising industry history. You can't beat the deal to advertisers where they pay only for actual traffic to their website and more so when they can easily calculate their conversion rate on that traffic and predict their profit margin on the deal. This arrangement cannot be duplicated on TV or in any other offline media with so much precision and accuracy.

This means that advertising revenue will continue to shift away from other media and will move online at an even more rapid rate than is the case currently. And not just any online mediums like banner ads for example. The revenue will specifically shift to pay per click text ads. If you need some proof just look at the Google numbers in recent months, and most of it is being generated by PPC ad revenue.

What does that mean to a blogger or webmaster? It means huge and increasing profits as the number of advertisers grows and the competition between them for clicks grows fiercer.

It means that any expert in any tiny little niche will find it increasingly easier to make a good regular income from a low traffic targeted site with higher paying, more valuable Adsense keywords.

2. Google Affiliates Recognize That Content Is Not King, It's Everything

Writers, or rather good writers are already enjoying a huge advantage as Google affiliates. Only well written content will attract quality traffic and only interesting engrossing content will keep that traffic coming back again and again. Only high-quality keyword rich content will keep a site high in search engine rankings and thus guarantee enough traffic to keep Google affiliate adsense earnings high.

3. Top Google Affiliates Are All Using The Blog Secret

Blogs were created for linking and everybody knows that links are closely related to traffic in two ways, firstly they generate traffic but more importantly, they help a site achieve high search engine rankings with usually opens the floodgates of traffic. Top Google affiliates are using this secret to keep those big fat Google affiliate Adsense checks arriving by special courier every month.

Most top Google affiliates have dozens of blogs loaded with the right keywords and engaging content. With just a little SEO (search engine optimization) skills, these new breed of high flying online professionals are able to get their sites to the top of search engine rankings. It is then minimal maintenance as they sit back and watch the traffic volumes flow to their blogs already loaded with Adsense ads. The result of all this is that the clicks happening at their sites shoots up and with it their Google affiliate Adsense earnings.

4. Google Affiliates Are Using The Secret of The Hook

In advertising it is called the hook. Journalists call it the angle or slant of the story. Both mean the same thing. It is all about picking up a subject and asking yourself, what aspect of it most interests your audience? If you answer that question accurately then your ad or your article will attract maximum interest.

Online this is becoming more critical by the day. Content that is not slanted to fit the interests and needs of you audience will not attract enough interest and this impacts on the traffic of your blog or site and ultimately on your Google affiliate adsense earnings.

How to Protect Your Adsense Account?

By C.K. Li

As an Adsense publisher, you must always face the risk of being banned because of invalid clicks and other reaons. What can you do in order to keep your account safe? Apart from using tacker, sitemeters, adloggers and other online trackers, there are something that you can do by yourself. I will list put some rules below to remind all of you how to keep your Adsense account in good condition, and not be flagged by Google. Additionally, following these simple rules will help keep your account in good standing:

- Don't click on your own Google ads
Clicking on Google ads on your own site for any reason is strictly prohibited. If you'd like more information about one of the advertisers appearing on your site, please type the URL of the ad directly into your browser's address bar, or use the - Don't ask others to click on Google ads.
Users should click on Google ads because they're interested in the services being advertised. Encouraging users to click on your Google ads, either directly or indirectly, can lead to inflated advertiser costs and can cause your account to be disabled.

- Don't employ pop-up prompts or automatic software installations.
Google is dedicated to improving the user experience on the Internet, and promoting responsible software principles is part of that effort. Sites showing Google ads may not prompt users to install software on their machines. Publishers must also not attempt to change users' browser home pages automatically or via pop-up prompts.

- Be aware of how your site is promoted.
Pages showing Google ads may never be loaded in an unrequested pop-up. This means publishers need to be very careful when purchasing traffic or setting up ad campaigns with third parties. Before contracting with any ad network, you should ensure that they will never display your site in pop-ups or as a result of the actions of any software application.

- Don't place Google ads on sites that contain prohibited content.
Google ads may not be displayed alongside any type of content prohibited by Google Adsnese's program policies, including adult or mature content, gambling-related content, or drug content. It's your responsibility to ensure that all of your pages adhere to these policies. One of my essay site was banned because my site does not fulfill their requirement of sites.

- Respect Google trademarks.
This is a tricky one. Many publishers do not know too much for this policy, and get banned by this. Framing or mimicking Google pages is strictly prohibited by our Guidelines for Use of Google Brand Features. In addition, publishers may not use any Google Brand Features such as Google trademarks, logos, web pages or screen shots, without prior consent from Google. Apart from that, no publishers can put adsense ads on a site with domain that include the words "google", or "adsense".

- Don't tamper with the AdSense code.
AdSense offers a wide variety of approved formats, colors, and features in your AdSense account. Once you've generated your code, however, we ask that you do not alter any portion of the code or change the layout, behavior, targeting, or delivery of ads for any reason, unless specifically authorized to do so by Google.

- Provide a positive user experience.
Sites that contain excessive pop-ups, use sneaky redirects to obtain traffic, or otherwise attempt to interfere with normal web navigation aren't permitted in the AdSense network. Please make sure your site doesn't deceive your users in any way. Also, every AdSense publisher is required to adhere to the Webmaster Guidelines on quality to ensure that their site provides a positive user experience.

- Provide a good environment for advertisers.
Sites showing Google ads should not present a poor opportunity for advertisers. Sites that use tricks or deceptive practices in order to trigger inadvertent clicks on ads are prohibited.

- Be responsive.
Publishers are asked to be responsive to emails sent by the AdSense team. Be sure to keep your email address up-to-date, in case we ever need to contact you about your account. To update your email address, you may need to contact Google immediately.

How to Use Google Webmaster Tools, Google Website Optimizer & Google Maps to Help With Your SEO

By Leonardo Wood

Google has an enormous range of handy tools for you to use as a way of helping with your SEO and Traffic generation. All of these tools will help you with your SEO.

Google Webmaster Tools - search Google for Webmaster Tools

Google Webmaster Tools can give you some very technical information and provides you with detailed reports about your web pages' visibility on Google. You can see what Google thinks about your pages, you can find out the Top Search Terms being used by your visitors and you can check the amount of inbound links/outbound links etc. You can also submit your site map to Google via Webmaster Tools which will ensure that Google knows about all of your pages. To get Webmaster Tools to work you need to install a small code into your site.

There are also a few other technical bits which you may find interesting.

Google Website Optimizer - search Google for Website Optimizer

Website Optimizer is a tool that can help you improve the effectiveness of your website or web pages. By allowing you to Split Test different versions of your website content, you can determine what content best attracts users to lead them to convert on your site.

Example: You have a Name Squeeze Page where you are offering a Free Report in exchange for your visitors Name and Email Address. Using website optimizer you would test two slightly different versions of that Name Squeeze Page to see which one converts best.

First you need to increase your Traffic, then you need to split test to increase your conversion rate.

If you put all your efforts into SEO and none of your efforts into Split Testing some of your SEO efforts will be wasted.

Again you will need to get your website designer to insert a code into your web pages in order to get website optimizer to work. The key to all successful marketing and online marketing is testing and measuring. It is essential to get the most from your marketing campaigns, and without the numbers how are you going to know what's working and what's not.

Google Maps- search Google for Google Maps

By getting your website listed for free in the Local Business Results it can really help you to get traffic to your site.

How to Use Bing Webmaster Tools to Check Your Bing Ranking

By Joe Fanning

Bing Webmaster Tools can easily be used just like Google Webmaster Tools to see how your website is doing in the search engine. To get your website checked out by the tool first you need to register with Microsoft live and create a user name, password, and profile. Next, you can put an xml file into your server or use a small piece of Meta code in the head section of your website. Finally, click on verify and Bing will crawl your website within three days.

Bing's webmaster dashboard will show you some important information about your website. You will see a clicks percentage or percentage of clicks in Bing. You'll see impressions, pages indexed, and pages crawled by Bing's search bots. Another way to see if your pages were crawled by Bing bots is to look at your pages cache in Bing when doing a search. This is also a sign that you have no penalties or sanctions by Bing and that Bing trusts your website or pages. You'll also get an index summary and traffic summary showing you what terms are being indexed by Bing and the traffic sent to your website. This can be compared to your log files or any analytics programs that you are running on your website such as Google Analytics.

It's important to keep track of what terms are showing up in the top results and compare them to Google and Yahoo especially during algorithm changes by either search engine. You can also see if Bing has imposed any sanctions or penalties on your website or website pages. If you do have any it's important to quickly remove what is causing them and let Bing know that the problem has been fixed and that is won't happen again. You can say that an SEO team was mistakenly hired that was using bad practices that you didn't know about and that you are very sorry for the trouble caused by them.

Bing Webmaster tools shows you a plethora of information about your website that can easily be juxtaposed and analyzed for SEO and marketing purposed to boost your rankings, website idea share, and conversions.

SEO And Article Writing - Best Route To High Ranking Websites

By Gerard Mohamed

Many discussions these days seem to be around subjects related to the rapid growth pace of certain terminologies over the internet. In this respect, article writing and SEO are one of the most popular terms for being talked about in almost the same breath.

SEO or Search Engine Optimization is intrinsically linked to web design, whilst articles are the main source of populating websites with content. The website's positioning within the search engine results is controlled or manipulated by working with different targeted keyword methodologies. This ultimately leads to high search engine ranking. When SEO is done on a consistent basis, it will result in a higher volume of traffic to the website, and subsequent higher revenue for the goods and services as being marketed from them.

It is well-known that the effectiveness of the search engines is evolving on a daily basis, and constantly coming up with new sets of rules and improvements. This is a conscious attempt to weed out many of the un-favoured practices implemented by certain website owners. They use what is known as black-hat techniques to manipulate the search engines in their selfish quest to obtain additional traffic for their websites.

One of the first things that will come into picture when talking about driving up the traffic to a website is therefore article writing and Search Engine Optimization is. In this respect, articles plus SEO are skilfully used to include exact match keywords related to what people are searching for. They will then be continually directed to this particular website whenever that they search for articles related to the targeted keyword. Un-targeted keywords on any website that is not linked to the marketing of the product or service, will be of no interest and the website user will just move on.

The quality of the articles along with the extent of SEO is therefore key factors in understanding how to get targeted visitors to any website. Any webmaster worth his salt would have taken due heed of this concept and also get to complete grips with it. This could make all the difference between a site being ranked on page 1 or page 10 of the search engine results. The actual chances of your website being discovered by the prospective consumer are highly remote and thus little or non-existent product sales.

Only an optimized internet site will drive traffic that can be transformed into regular visitors and ultimately loyal customers or clients. Ensure that the correct meta-tags, titles and keywords are in place with no misspelling that will lead visitors to sites other than yours. Write lots and lots of SEO articles not only for the websites, but also for posting to other article directories, with back-links to your website.

Always sprinkle the search phrases or keywords all along the composed lines of the written text without overdoing it. Search Engine Optimisation, must not be overdone with excess keywords, as it can be construed as keyword stuffing, which is also highly frowned upon.

Tips To Find Legitimate Internet Income Opportunities

By Cynthia Minnaar

If you are searching for internet income opportunities, you will have discovered that there are thousands available to choose from online. Making a choice from the large number available can be rather confusing.

It is not an easy task to select a legitimate internet income opportunity out of the many opportunities that are available online. You need to approach cautiously and systematically to find one. Here are some tips you can take that would ensure legitimacy of an internet income opportunity.

Initially it is advisable to check the Internet for reviews of the opportunities that you are interested in. Good tools to use for this are the search engine. Forums are a great source of information too. Bear in mind that negative reviews do not always mean that the opportunity is a scam. Each legitimate internet income opportunity has their competitor. It is important therefore that you carry out your own research on various reviews to determine whether an opportunity is legitimate.

Going with an internet income company that has a proven track record is far less risky and it would be highly practical too. A legitimate opportunity never wants to miss a chance to announce their proven track record.

Join a few forums related to the theme of the opportunities you are looking at and discuss and ask questions about the opportunity. Ask if anyone in the forum is already a member. Also you can expect to get informative feedback and good advice from fellow forum members.

Look on the site to see if there is a help desk to take care of any questions you may have regarding the opportunity. It is a good idea to engage in a conversation with the help desk to enable you to assess the quality of their service. If a forum is also provided that is a good sign too.

Also look on the website to see if there are a variety of testimonials provided by other members of the opportunity. If you are suspicious you can go one step further and establish if these testimonials are genuine. If there are no contact details below the testimonials then contact the help desk and ask for some contact details. Should the help desk refuse to give you details due to privacy reasons, then leave your contact details and request them to get a few of the testimonial providers to contact you.

Legitimate internet income opportunities with proven track records should never hide their physical address. This is normally visible on the website. However, if you see only the help desk or the contact form in their contact tabs, you should ask at the help desk for their physical address.

Spend some time studying their terms and conditions as well as the disclaimer carefully. Be sure to check for any irregularities or any difference between the sales page claim and the disclaimer. You should ensure that the internet income opportunity is offering a money-back guarantee. Check the duration of the guarantee and calculate that it would be possible to test the system in the stipulated time.

It is possible to find legitimate internet income opportunities. Just don't jump in and join the first one you come across. Rather take your time to do your own due diligence and follow some of the above tips to find the best internet income opportunity for you.

AdSense Earnings - The Most Reliable Source Of Online Income

By Parthasarathy Rengaswami

Internet income opportunities abound. If you have been browsing the internet, you would have come across information about several online income opportunities. Some of them may look very promising. There are also hundreds of guides, ebooks, videos and training courses on how to make money from the internet using various methods. But AdSense is the simplest and the most reliable source of online income.

What is AdSense? When you do a search using Google, you will find some advertisements on the margin of the page. These are advertisements powered by Google. People who offer various services both online and offline advertise their services using a Google AdWords account. Google charges them on the basis of the number of times their ads are clicked by people. This is known as pay per click advertisement.

Google also displays these kinds of advertisements on websites owned by various people. Google will display ads relevant to the content of a website. For example, if you have a website on online games, Google will display ads relating to online games. When someone who visits your website clicks on an ad, Google will give you a share of the ad revenue it receives on pay per click basis.

Don't you think that this is a simple and easy way to earn an online income? Yes, it is. You only need two things to start earning - a website owned by you and an AdSense account. You can apply for and get an AdSense account once you have a website with a reasonably good content. Having your own website will cost money since you have to buy a domain and pay for hosting your domain. However, you can also use AdSense on blogs, which are free to set up. Once you place the AdSense code given by Google on your website, Google will start displaying the ads on your webpage. Google will decide what ads to place. You can just sit back and relax.

Of course, you need visitors to your website. But you need to be careful here. You cannot solicit people to visit your site and click on the ads. If you do this, it will be in violation of Google's terms and your account will be terminated by Google. The only way to get visitors to your site is to fill your site with valuable and keyword rich content so that people who search for information will find your site through search engines and arrive there. Some of them may click the ads helping you earn from AdSense.

Think of a topic in which you are interested and start your blog. Apply for a [http://internet-income-review-for-you.blogspot.com/2011/05/2-reasons-why-adsense-is-essential-for.html]Google AdSense account. By small but steady efforts, you will see substantial [http://internet-income-review-for-you.blogspot.com]AdSense earnings.

How to Re-Apply For an Adsense Account?

By Rajan M

Google follows strict policies for Adsense Publishers. If you violate any of those TOS then your account will be banned from Google Adsense. Once they ban your account it is very difficult or almost impossible to get your account back into action. Only if you have a complete proof that you haven't violated their rules there are a few chances to get your account back. Submit those stats and proof to them for consideration. If Google feels that you are correct you might get your account back.

Once they disagree with your proof do not approach them again. According to Google TOS once your account is banned you can never re-apply for your lifetime.

Even if you try to re-apply for an adsense account using different e-mail address you will be caught. Google has an excellent tracking system and you can never cheat them. Even if you re-apply with a new address or web-site you won't be approved. Google checks  its banned publisher's database before approving any new accounts.

So never try to cheat the Search King Google. They are the best in tracking and they will find you by any means.

Still there is one way to "Re-Apply for an Adsense Account even if you have been already banned from them."

Remember Google only bans adsense publisher account and not their web-sites. One legal trick or method to re-apply your adsense account is to use your friend's name.

Consider you have a web-site like "http://www.yourdomainname.com" on which you have used your adsense ads. After your account has been disabled the first thing to do is try convincing Google that you have not violated their terms using suitable proof. If this doesn't work then go the other way.

It's time take the help of your friend. Create a blogger account with his Google account and apply for adsense program in his name and in his address. Now Google will easily approve his account. Then get the permission from your friend to use his adsense publisher id in your website which is "  rel=nofollow [http://www.yourdomainname.com, http://www.yourdomainname.com. Now as per Google TOS you can use your adsense ads on any number of sites once your account is approved. So you again make money from adsense. But you will be getting the cheque in your friend's name. Make sure you have very good understanding with him and so you get your percent of income from him.

If your friend has no web-site then no problem you can get all the money provided you explain everything to him and get his permission.

That's it! You have successfully re-applied for Adsense Account. Make sure that you don't violate their terms again and get more problems for your friend.

How to Get Approved for an AdSense Account in 5 Easy Steps

By Matt Helphrey

Google AdSense is a free program that online publishers can use to make money. All you have to do is place a simple little code somewhere on your blog or website. This code translates into relevant ads that display on your web platform wherever you want. Then, when one of your visitors so much as clicks on that ad, you get paid! Anyone can sign up to use Google AdSense, but you must get approved first. Here is a step-by-step method you can use to get approved that works every time...

Step #1: Go to Blogger.com and sign up for a free Blogger blog. This blog platform is run by Google, so when you apply using one of their own platforms, your chances of getting approved are much better. Don't worry so much about setting up all the fancy looking templates, add-ons and extra graphics. You aren't going to use it anymore once you get approved. Or at least you don't have to.

You can name your blog whatever you want, but try to pick out a theme or topic that you can write on easily. More about that coming up...

Step #2: You will need to have some well written and unique content to include on this new Blogger blog. The Google rep who looks at your blog wants to see that there is no spam, no duplicate content and nothing to do with porn or gambling.

So, find something that you know that you can write about without having to put too much thought into it. Remember that you are only using this blog to get approved for AdSense and that you can even shut this blog down when you are done with it. Thus the topic you choose to write on should be something that won't take you too long to research and write on.

Once you know what that topic is, simply write 5 articles with each article being around 450 words in length.

Step #3: Once you have your content written, you need to drip feed it into your new blog. Publish one article each day for five continous days. Don't skip a day! The Google rep will also want to make sure that you are posting often and that your blog isn't only made with one page of content strictly to try and make money with AdSense.

Step #5: Go to the Google AdSense sign up home page and apply after publishing your 4th page of content after day #4.

That's it! The application process may take a few weeks to approve you, but you will usually get approved within 7 to 9 days. It all depends on how busy they are at the time.

Keep in mind that once you get approved, that you can then use your Google ads on any website you want. You don't ONLY have to use them on your Blogger blog. You don't have to ever use that blog again if you don't want. Just make sure that you read through the entire terms of service for using their program so as you don't get booted from it.

Need Help With How To Use Facebook?

By Kieran Gracie

I have been amazed by the number of people who are still either intimidated or confused by Facebook. This social networking site has so many functions that it can take quite a lot of learning before being able to use it properly. Facebook does not exactly help itself either, offering a myriad of detailed instructions, a great deal of jargon but no simple guidance for beginners.

And it is constantly updating and changing itself with a stream of new features and layouts, which only adds to the confusion.

Without a good introduction to Facebook many newbies and older people quickly give up.  They, and the whole social community, suffer as a result.  This seems a shame to me.

I decided to do some research about Facebook tutorials or any other information about how to use Facebook that might be available online.  Newbies want to have the Facebook basics explained in an easy and understandable way, free of jargon or techie talk.

This is a short summary of Facebook basics that, I hope, will help remove some of the confusion and encourage any wavering beginners to keep going.

Facebook for Beginners

As a beginner you want to know how Facebook works.  You may have a feeling that it is some sort of internet social community which puts old friends in touch with each other.  Some people seem to have a lot of fun on Facebook, even become addicted to it. Some play games on it, and some manage to sell things on it. But where do you start?

You start, of course, by opening a Facebook account!  This should be a personal account, even if you intend to do business sooner or later.  And you may only have one account, ever.  Open more than one and you risk being shut out of Facebook for good.  No excuses will change that decision. Don't worry about this, because your account will let you do everything you will ever want to do on Facebook.

Once inside you will have a Home page and a Personal Profile page.

Your Wall

Here is where the jargon starts but it is not difficult to learn.  Your Personal Profile is known as your Wall, and contains as much or as little information about you that you want to share with your friends.  You can have photos, videos, poems, comments - anything that you think will interest them. You are in total control of your Wall.

Your News Feed

More jargon - your Home page is called your News Feed!  By default, when you log in to your Facebook account, you are taken to your News Feed. Everything that you post on your Wall also appears on this News Feed page.

But this is where it gets interesting.  Everything that your friends post on their Walls appears not only on their News Feeds but also on yours.  So, make a comment on your Wall and all your friends will see it too - in real time.  If any of them like your comment they might decide to share it with their friends too.  And so on.

You can see how an interesting post can be spread very quickly to huge numbers of people.  This is where Facebook comes in to its own.

Facebook Fan Pages

Remember that Facebook started as a tool to help link people together.  It had no interest, initially, in allowing people to do business but that has now changed. Enter Facebook Fan Pages.

At present you are limited to 5,000 Friends, with a rumor that this will be reduced.  Also you are not supposed to engage in business activities on your Personal Profile.  Create a Fan Page, however, and you can have as many Fans as you like.  You can promote or sell things.  You can have an Opt In Form for email subscribers. You can generate more traffic to your Fan Pages than you can probably handle.

It is actually possible to conduct your business entirely from your Facebook Fan Pages, with Facebook providing free internet hosting.  I think that it is still better to have your own website and upload to your Fan Page, but others might disagree.

Privacy Control

Poor old Facebook has been heavily criticized for having inadequate privacy controls but, in my opinion, this has been unfair.  You get a huge range of options for every piece of information you wish to hide, share or limit to certain categories (No One, Friends, Friends of Friends, Everyone).  Much more control than is really necessary.

Some people may have blamed Facebook when they should perhaps have taken a closer look at their own management style.   I have never had any issues with Facebook over privacy.

You can change any privacy setting at any time, so I suggest that you don't worry about this and just make your own settings exactly the way you want them.

What Help Is Available?

I have tried to give a simple overview of how Facebook is organized but, clearly, a newbie will need much greater detail to help get started.

My suggestion is to begin with a Personal Account, build up your Wall and start to get a few Friends.  That way you will begin to see Facebook operating in practice, and get familiar with the way it works.

There are several quite good tutorial programs available, which show you step by step how to progress through all that Facebook has to offer. In particular you will need help in setting up your first Fan Page, with its iframes and applications, welcome pages and opt-in forms.

But, initially, you need to know that there is help available to all beginners.  Don't be put off, try to learn the jargon, get familiar with the Facebook basics until you are able to see it for what it is - a great tool for interacting with other people and, if you want, to make money online.
